“FreeCAD Version 1.0 Released,” n.d. https://blog.freecad.org/2024/11/19/freecad-version-1-0-released/

If you ask me what three #OpenSource projects shaped my vision of OpenSource, those would be #Linux kernel, #Blender, and #FreeCAD.
The last one just got released with version 1.0. This version was getting into shape for 20 years. If you ever used commercial #CAD software, FreeCAD is a fresh air that allows you to learn, design, and just have fun.
The first time I tried it was during my #robotics course at the university, as we were learning some commercial alternatives. Sadly, it was super slow, had shortcuts like some CorelDraw, and did not spark joy. That’s how I learned about FreeCAD, which actually had sane defaults and put the user in front of the picture.
I’m really glad that such projects and people exist. They really show that #human #collaboration is possible and can lead to great results.

Again, #OpenAI makes changes to their models without notifying users, and it seems to be the norm now. After some time, everything seemed to return to normal.
What a crazy world we live in. What a time to be alive!
